On Wednesday, May 20th, 2026, eight men set out from their village near Long Tieng valley in Laos to trek 2.5 miles up the mountainside to forage for food, hunt animals, and pan for gold in the upper mountain caves. The men are stunned by a flash flood, and the fight for survival will stretch beyond human limits. For 15 days, rescuers will work to save the men.

Three trapped men gave interviews, as well as several rescuers, about their time in the caves. Only 5 of the 8 names were released, so the narrative was written from this available information.
